MCL Department of NC Commandant Dennis Brockland, Chief of Staff Pete Meletis, Aide-de-Camp Steve Wilson and Midwest District Vice Commandant Hank ‘Doc’ Kaczmarek installed the 2010 officer team for Iredell County, Detachment #1097.  The installed officers were Commandant Buddy Hemric, Sr. Vice Commandant Luca Cotrone, Jr. Vice Commandant Joe Vallone, Judge Advocate Vic Horne, Adjutant/Paymaster Bill Stewart, Chaplain Frank Turner and Sergeant-at-Arms Todd Carter.  This was a test for Dick Camery

It’s never too early to get your advancement paperwork filled out and mailed off to the Kennel Dog Robber.  All PDD advancement paperwork MUST be in the paws of the Kennel Dog Robber no later than 1-July-2010!!!  Contact your Pound Dog Robber for the advancement forms or simply download them off of the Kennel website at www.moddkennel.org.  Another thing to keep in mind is that you MUST have the NC Pack Dog Robber sign your PDD advancement form prior to mailing it off to the Kennel Dog Robber.  The easiest way to get his signature is to show up at the NC Pack Growl that will be held in Greensboro, NC on 26-February-2010.  Don’t forget to sign your name to it too!  If you do not have the actual form that has copies of it already attached to it, then also...

Woof Woof North Carolina Pack Devil Dogs!

The next scheduled NC Pack Growl is set for Friday night, 26-Feb-10, starting at 2100. The Doghouse location will be the Pinehurst Room, located on the 3rd floor inside the Koury Convention Center. The address is 3121 High Point Road at I-40, Greensboro, NC 27407. Just type this address into your electronic sniffer and you’ll find your way there fast!!! If you plan on staying the night at the Convention Center, the room rates are 100 big bones per night. You can call and make your personal kennel reservations by calling them at 1-800-242-6556.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Tech Sgt Adam K. Ginett

According to the Department of Defense, Ginett, 29, of Knightdale, N.C., died Jan. 19 near Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan of wounds from an improvised explosive device.

Adam is the grandson of Marine Corps League Member Jim Haslam of the Tar Heel Detachment in Raleigh.

Marine Corps League Table Rock Detachment 1197 of Morganton North Carolina selected George Greene Sergeant Major U.S.M.C. Retired for it's 2010 Marine of the Year Award. This award is the highest award bestowed upon a member of a Marine Corps League Detachment. George is a founding member of Detachment 1197. He was the guest of honor speaker at the Detachments first Marine Corps Birthday Ball in 2006.

George has participated in virtually all Detachment functions, including; services for fallen veterans, patriotic ceremonies, Toys for Tots and Detachment fund raisers.

With the help of some Marine Corps Christmas Magic a few Fire trucks, armored vehicles and helicopters Gunny Claus made his tour of Marine Corps Bases Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point and New River. Visiting 26 Marine Corps Units this year, Gunny Claus showed up to bring Christmas cheer to 2119 Marine Corps Kids and over 4000 Marines with a few visits to the Jacksonville USO.

Don White of the L/Cpl Alan D. Lam Detachment #1209 of the Marine Corps League spent most of the year constructing the Toys For Tots Train.  Don described his efforts & said, "This was a labor of love for all the children and youngsters in the area -- there are a few odds and ends before it is completely finished but essentially it is good to go!". 

The train helped us double the toys distributed in our 2009 Toys For Tots Campaign!

Thanks to the efforts of some really motivated Marines including Commandant Tom Ray Sr. and Sr Vice Commandant Owen Smith of the Cherry Point Detachment we are proud to report the Cherry Point Detachment met last evening and installed new Detachment officers.

This Detachment is now reactivated and fired up and will make a difference in the Department of North Carolina. I congratulate the efforts of Dept Jr. Vice Commandant Wally Darling and Dept DVC Ron Cooper in helping to make this happen, I also want to thank George Barrows for his assistance.

Detachment Commandant Tom Ray Sr. is looking forward to attending our upcoming Dept Quarterly meeting and meeting with many of you at the Commandant’s Council meeting on the 29th at 7PM in Greensboro. The Hooters in Burlington, owned by a Marine (Orin Ealey; MOS cook [ooh-rahhh!]), wanted to do something for Veterans Day.  This is the first time a Hooters has ever been involved with a Veterans Day recognition project.  This Hooters Manager contacted his Corporate management and told him that he wanted to do something new and special for Veterans.

State PresentationThe Troutman Baptist Church in Troutman, NC celebrated Dale Wilson Day. Dale Wilson is a Marine and the National 2009 Outstanding Disabled Veteran of the Year.

In February, the Department of NC Marine Corps League was made aware of a WBTV program that provided the opportunity to purchase high quality combat socks for $6 dollars a pair from ThorLo a Statesville, NC company. These socks normally sell for $12 to $14 a pair. An initiative was undertaken to get each Detachment to donate funds to purchase these socks. Dr. Parrish won the raffle for the Savings Bond drawn at the Clayton Harvest Festival.  In addition to buying raffle tickets Dr. Parrish supports the Marine Corps League with donations of tooth brushes and tooth paste that we include in our monthly care packages to Marines deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
